"Survive Style 5+"
Japan:
Director: Gen Sekiguchi (2004)
Original Language: Japanese
Cast: Tadanobu Asano, Reika Hashimoto, Kyôko Koizumi, Hiroshi Abe, Ittoku Kishibe, Yumi Asou, Kanjiya Shihori, Sonny Chiba, Vinny Jones
Gah! a very hilarious yet mindblowing film! its colourful sets and really memorable characters got me hooked in this film. most especially the plot as weird as it is, is very well done… it goes at a fast pace but always take time in the most important scenes and events. the plot consists of five stories (parallel events happening) where people are going through weird experiences in their lives.. well in the head to say the least hehehe… you see a man in a house being bugged by a lady who he always kill and bury from time to time and see her alive after… there’s also a couple where he’s a hypnotist and she makes commercials for a company… another story is about a father who was hypnotized & turned into a bird and wasn’t able to come back to being a human because the hypnotist was killed…. we also have three idiotic robbers… and we have a british killer who asks people "what is your function in life (brrritish accent)?" and suddenly kills people.
so many weirdness! especially in the plot, but if you haven’t watched it… Watch it! its hilarious…
what i really am impressed of this film is the usage of colour in setting… i loved most the story of the man and the big house where an immortal lady bugging him and throwing him around the house (i dunno just what she is… played by Reika Hashimoto, she’s my type!)… you see how the setting is so colourful because of the magic it brings… the lady of course is that magic… she dresses in hot clothes and she gets killed again and again by this man (i wouldn’t wonder why he’s unnamed… but he’s played by Asano-san), disassembling her, even burning her… its so funny if you watch this film…
as for the rest of the stories… they’re okay… i still liked the imagination of that lady who’s making commercials coming up with stupid ideas that even comes up to shrimp and prawn having sex ending up with seafood snack (y’know? junk food hehehe)… its weird, hilarious and its very artistic… i would die to see this film again!

"Rikidozan / Yeokdosan"
Japan / South Korea:
Director: Hae-Sung Song (2004)
Original Language: Japanese & Korean
Cast: Kyung-gu Sol, Miki Nakatani, Tatsuya Fuji, Masato Hagiwara, Masakatsu Funachi
A very inspirational film indeed… its all about the life of a Korean who’s dream is to become a yokozuna (high ranked sumo wrestler) in war-time Japan but later found out in post-war a new craze that was introduced by the Americans… pro-wrestling… well its a very depressing film for those who doesn’t want to watch this (i might spoil you if you learn more of the plot)… the setting is very believable and the colours suits the time period from mid-1940’s to 1963 which is the duration of the storyline. Kyung-gu Sol acts very well as Rikidozan and still has that impression that is stuck in our minds that he started to be a Korean and he experienced plenty of pains and suffering before he could reach for his dreams… Miki Nakatani plays the role of Rikidozan’s wife. she plays very well her role and you could well get affected with her nice acting…
going to the plot itself… the film is very devoted to following the life of Rikidozan from his youth with the sumo dojo until when he made popular pro-wrestling in Japan after being in America to meet his dreams… well his dream mainly is to smile as hard as he could… but there are things that changed his life when he started making him "pretend not to be nice".
i could say so much… but i just finished watching the film… hope you guys watch it too… its based on a true story… try reading the biography and the accomplishments of Rikidozan…
…more to come…

Another Brazilian song from Grupo Revelação
Grupo Revelação - Esqueci de te Esquecer
(Brasil)
Quando acabou nosso romance o meu mundo desabou
A solidão me abrigou sofri sem você
Me dá prazer te quero do meu lado custe o que custar

Well, another "Lost in Translation" OST, now from an american band…
Phoenix - Too Young
(USA - Lost in Translation OST)
Baby when I saw you turning at the end of the street
I knew a time was gone and it took me like ages
Just to understand that I was afraid to be a simple guy
I tried my best to smile but deep inside my heart
I felt it was shouting like a crowd dancing
I guess I couldn’t live without the things that made my life what it is
Can’t you hear it calling oh yeah
Everybody’s dancin’ oh yeah
Tonight everything is over
I feel too young
I can’t lie on my bed without thinking I was wrong
But when this feeling calls this world becomes another
Nighttime won’t hold me in your arms again
I got a very good friend who says he can’t believe the love I give
Is not enough to end your fears
I guess I couldn’t live without the things that made my life what it is
Can’t you hear it calling oh yeah
Everybody’s shakin’ oh yeah
Tonight everything is over
I feel too young
Oh rainfalls and hard times coming they won’t leave me tonight
I wish I knew what I was doing
Just do let this spirit survive
Can’t you hear me calling oh yeah
I guess I couldn’t live without the things that made my life what it is
Can’t you hear me calling oh yeah
Everybody’s dancing oh yeah
Tonight everything is over
I feel too young

Getting into the rhythms of Salsa & Merengue…
this one’s from Dominican Republic
Pues tu me has dicho
Que es linda y apasionada
Que es buena y adinerada
No cela nunca por nada
Y sabe hacerlo todo en la casa
No sale ni a la esquina
No habla con la vecina
No gasta y economiza

If you guys have watched "Lost In Translation" with Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson, here’s a Japanese song that you may overhear from the film or have heard from the end credits… It’s by Happy End entitled "Kaze wo Atsumete"…
Happy End -
Lost In Translation OST)

I heard this song from the early mp3.com era… its a very nice mexican ballad…
Fernando Delgadillo - La Recuerdo Asi
junto a tu recuerdo"

I thought i’d put some lyrics from some of my fav 90’s OPM… and something that came from the country of my origin… this one by True Faith has been basically one of the national anthems of Philippine Senti.
True Faith - Huwag Na Lang Kaya
(Pilipinas)
Nais ko ay magpakilala sa iyo
At ipahiwatig ang nilalaman ng puso ko
Mauunawaan mo kaya

To those fans of "The Motorcycle Diaries"
here’s the song heard from the ending… its a very lovely song by Uruguayan Jorge Drexler
Jorge Drexler - Al Otro Lado Del Río
(Uruguay: OST The Motorcycle Diaries)
Clavo mi remo en el agua
Llevo tu remo en el mío
Creo que he visto una luz
al otro lado del río
El día le irá pudiendo
poco a poco al frío
Creo que he visto una luz
al otro lado del río
Sobre todo creo que
no todo está perdido
Tanta lágrima, tanta lágrima
y yo, soy un vaso vacío
Oigo una voz que me llama
casi un suspiro
Rema, rema, rema-a
Rema, rema, rema-a
En esta orilla del mundo
lo que no es presa es baldío
Creo que he visto una luz
al otro lado del río
Yo muy serio voy remando
muy adentro sonrío
Creo que he visto una luz
al otro lado del río
Sobre todo creo que
no todo está perdido
Tanta lágrima, tanta lágrima
y yo, soy un vaso vacío
Oigo una voz que me llama
casi un suspiro
Rema, rema, rema-a
Rema, rema, rema-a
Clavo mi remo en el agua
Llevo tu remo en el mío
creo que he visto una luz
al otro lado del río

Another Brazilian song from Grupo Revelação
Grupo Revelação - Deixa Acontecer
(Brasil)
Deixa acontecer naturalmente
Eu não quero ver você chorar
Deixa que o amor encontre a gente
Nosso caso vai eternizar
Deixa acontecer naturalmente
Eu não quero ver você chorar
Deixa que o amor encontre a gente
Nosso caso vai eternizar
Você já disse que me quer
Pra toda a vida, eternidade
Quando está distante de mim
Fica louca de saudade
Quem é a razão do seu viver
Sou eu
Está tudo bem, eu acredito
Eu não tô duvidando disso
Só que eu tenho muito medo
De me apaixonar
Esse filme já passou na minha vida
E você tá me ajudando a superar
